Net Metering is available to any Haldimand County Hydro customer who generates electricity primarily for their own use from a renewable energy source (wind, water, solar radiation or agricultural biomass – as defined by the Ministry of Energyusing equipment with a total nameplate rating of 500 kW or less.
Net metering measures the amount by which the electricity delivered to you exceeds the electricity you generate, resulting in a “net” total from which your bill is calculated. In other words, the more electricity your system produces, the less you will pay. Excess generation credits can be carried forward for up to 12 months to offset future electricity costs. Generation Connections
Green Energy Act and Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Program
Haldimand Count Hydro Inc. supports the Government of Ontario's Green Energy and Green Economy Act and the province's goals to encourage the development of renewable energy supply to decrease our reliance on carbon-based fuels. The Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Program has been created as a result of the Act and is a straightforward way to contract for renewable energy generation. It provides standardized program rules, prices and contracts. Feed-in tariffs refer to the specific prices paid to renewable energy suppliers for the electricity produced by the generating facility. The pricing structure provides a reasonable return on investment and is differentiated by project size and technology type. Contributing to a better environment by delivering clean renewable power to growing communities is critical to the success of the Green Energy Act and to creating Ontario's greener future. Haldimand County Hydro Inc. is pleased to be working with proponents and customers to help them successfully see their microFIT and FIT projects through to connection.
